When packing an eco-friendly snack, it’s important to remember that the goal is not to be as eco-friendly as possible but to pack well snack, while being eco-friendly about it.

Therefore, try to follow three main principles every time you pack a snack.

  • A snack is necessary to keep fresh
  • We want a snack to protect against pollution
  • We want to pack the snack in such a way that with it handled comfortably

Keeping the snack fresh keeps it from spoiling in taste. For example, when a snack is properly packaged, it prevents contact with oxygen, which can lead to oxidation and spoil the taste of the food.

Snack food can become contaminated with bacteria and other microorganisms if it is exposed to unhygienic conditions during transport and handling. Good packaging helps minimize the risk of contamination.

Proper packaging of the snack also makes it easier to transport and store. Good packaging must be practical and comfortable to carry so that it is not necessary to carry the snack in several different containers.

The basic principle of ecological snack packaging

Always prefer disposable packagings such as plastic bags or foil instead of reusable packaging, which can be washed or cleaned after use and thus prepared for further use. The longer you use one reusable packaging, the more environmentally friendly it will be. When using reusable packaging, it is also necessary to think about transporting the packaging back after eating the snack.

What kind of eco-friendly snack packaging is there?

  1. Box

One popular solution is to use reusable snack boxes, which can be made from a variety of materials, including plastic, metal, or bamboo. These boxes can be of different sizes and shapes. We can either buy several boxes and pack the individual parts of the snack separately, or buy a box with compartments for different types of food.

  1. Glass containers

A suitable container for liquid snacks is a glass container that is easy to clean. Its disadvantage is the weight and also the increased risk of breakage.

  1. Waxed napkins

Waxed napkins can be a great substitute for disposable napkins or foil. Waxed napkins are textiles covered with beeswax. Wax helps keep food fresh and protects it from moisture. Plus, you can easily shape the napkin to fit the size of your snack.

  1. Canvas bag

The canvas bag is suitable for packing nuts or dried fruit. It is ideal to store such snacks in them, which are not in danger of being crushed. The canvas bag is very light and you can also use it for shopping.

  1. Water bottle

Snacking is not only about food but also about maintaining a drinking regime. Therefore, for water, use reusable bottles that are made of durable materials. Glass bottles are a popular choice due to their harmless composition, that they do not contain harmful chemicals such as phthalates or bisphenol A (BPA), which can be released from plastic bottles. Bottles made of stainless steel are also very popular. These bottles are lightweight, durable, and easy to maintain. Stainless steel is also harmless and does not contain BPA or other harmful substances.

Why is it good to pack a snack ecologically?

One of the main reasons why it is good to pack a snack ecologically is to protect the environment. The production and disposal of single-use packaging create a large amount of waste that ends up in nature and can damage ecosystems. The use of ecological packaging helps to minimize the negative impact on nature.

Using reusable packaging for snacks can also help save money in the long run. Disposable packaging has to be purchased repeatedly and is therefore more expensive than reusable packaging.

Furthermore, some disposable packaging, such as plastic bags and wrapping foil, may contain harmful substances that can be released into food. Using eco-friendly packaging helps minimize exposure to harmful substances and ensures healthier food.
